I have an Apple G4 PowerBook running Mac OS X 10.4.8. I also run Virtual PC so that I can run Windows XP in order to use Inspection Software. I have a Dell Axim X51V running Windows Mobile 5.0 which uses Active Sync through MS Windows. I also have Mark/Space's Missing Sync for Windows installed in OS X so I can sync my Axim with Mac files and app's. To connect my Axim to Missing Sync in OS X I need to change the USB connection setting on the Axim to "Enable Advanced Network Functionality". You'll fund that under the settings, USB to PC connections. To connect to the Windows side, I need to uncheck that box, so that the Axim is not enabled for advanced network functionality.
If you still have PC connection problems in Virtual PC you might want to try this: Connect the PDA, start Windows, click the USB settings in PC settings and be sure the device is checkmarked. In my case, the box will simply state "Dell Axim x51v". If that box is checked in PC settings, and I have my PDA not enabled for advanced network functionality, I can connect every time with no problem.
Hope this helps, if any of you are using Virtual PC. I haven't tried this with Parallels, which I have on my other Mac machine.
